14/14H. The Promise Fulfilled.
Heroic Garrosh 25 Defeated! US #19th! One year later, Tyranny exits MoP, our 4th expansion as a progression guild, stronger than ever before! After weeks of work hashing out this fight, after nearly three months of grueling progression with the most voracious competition we've ever seen, Tyranny has completed what we set out to do at the start of the expansion... finishing on a high point, in the US Top 20, working every day to live up to our potential. The guild played so unbelievably well on this fight and in this tier. As I told them after we killed Garrosh that in my five and a half years as GM of Tyranny, I've never seen so many people work so hard, give so much heart and focus, so much faithfulness to our progression goals, and then went met them. We went into this tier more focused, prepared and motivated than ever before, and we exited having fulfilled the promise of the expansion. We kept our word, that we would spend every day and try to live up to our potential to get to the goal we so desired.
People who raid with us know that while 'Tyranny' is our external name, the name I call it internally more often than not is 'Team Tyranny'. Fundamentally, it represents an idea. There are a lot of great guilds out there. There are a lot of guilds with members who work hard on their behalf. But where tyranny is distinct, where we are different, is the guild as an idea... a team... all of us together, as one, working... not just a few people. That is the reasony this guild was able to survive some of the brutal blows it received this expansion (and just prior for those in the know) and and thrived across it, most especially in Siege of Orgrimmar. Because it wasn't the person, the particulars of the moment, or the ego that mattered... it was the idea of Tyranny. We collaborated, as team members on the common problems. We worked every issue, as a team. We held faith in what we were doing, as a team. The guild gave so much, because they believed in the team as an idea.
That is why we did better. That is why we thrive. Because the team prevented recurrences of the mistakes and pitfalls that befell us in previous tiers and expansion. The team made sure the guild walked down no dead ends and did nothing all tier that could weaken it in any way. The team constantly checked itself to push harder and farther. The team made sure that above all else, the one thing that mattered... the only thing that mattered was that we were using our limited raid hours well and were doing all we could to be successful.
And this is our record of that effort.
That is what we accomplished, as a team.
So what to say about Garrosh? The fight has it's moments, but before too long we got to a place where we would see Phase 4 every attempt, and it was just a matter of nailing the 4th Malice. We likened it to Home-Run derby in a way. It was an 11 minute wind up of very mechanical execution of our awesome strategy, followed by about 60 seconds of extreme danger around 4th Malice. You either struck out on that pitch, or you hit a home run and won. As soon as we got an ideal method for 4th, the fight ended, on an attempt that honestly, wasn't nearly our best. But such is progression.. what matters is that the job got done when it most counted, and on that one pull, it did. And the guild was awesome getting to that put, looking through all our logs and for alternatives to what we are doing (and we changed strat accordingly), to put us in a position that all we needed was just to hit that 4th Malice really hard. And after a lot of patience and grueling hours, the moment came... our moment.
Siege of Orgrimmar was competitive in a way I didn't imagine World of Warcraft could be anymore. This makes me very optimistic about the future. Against extreme competition, Tyranny thrived, better than every before. Last expansion we finished US #39. We finished this expansion US #19 in a much more difficult tier (on top of probably the best raiding expac WoW has had to date). And we did it professionally, focused and motivated to the very end. That's a massive accomplishment in and of itself. But that's because every member believed in the idea - Team Tyranny - an idea that took us through the expansion and to our present success.
Nearly two years ago, having cleared Dragon Soul, I wrote of the promise that Tyranny had going into Mists of Pandaria. Somewhat under a year from now, the progression race will start again. Warlords of Draenor will arrive. Tyranny will face new bosses and new challenges in a new raiding format in a game with a whole new set of rules and ways of doing things. We go into this future, as we went into the one we're living in now, with strength and resolve we never had before, with the deepest knowledge of what we are capable of if we work hard enough and strive far enough. Next year we will do it again and think "where will be we, when Warlords ends?". So long as we remain true to who we are, learn from what we did in this expansion and this tier, never forget Team Tyranny, our guild, our home, will long remain a place of sanity, of fairness, of professionalism, of purpose, of bleeding edge progression, and most of all fun. We met the promise of this tier and expansion... but we know, going into Warlords of Draenor, we can do even better and see how far our potential can go!
Congratulations Tyranny, 14/14H, US #19th. Thus ends Mists of Pandaria... Tyranny's 4th World of Warcraft expansion
